Fun and Easy Thanksgiving craft

My 3 year-old loves doing crafts, so we decided to make turkeys. They're cute, simple enough to keep a toddler's attention, and you probably have the supplies on hand already.

You will need:
paper plates
construction paper
crayons
scissors
glue (we used a glue stick. Tape would also work)

Step 1: Turn the paper plates over, and color the back

Step 2: Cut out feathers, feet, head, beak and waddle. You can do this while the kids are coloring. For the feathers, I took 5 different colored sheets of construction paper and cut them in half width-wise (use the whole sheet if making more than two turkeys or if you just want more feathers). I then folded each half-sheet in half width-wise twice and cut a feather shape (basically just a pointed oval). This will yield 4 feathers. Repeat with other colors. I cut the beaks, feet and waddles out of the scraps. For the heads, I folded the other half of the yellow paper in half length-wise and cut a long oval shape.

Step 3: Assemble. Glue or tape the feathers and feet to the back. Draw eyes on the heads (or use googly eyes if you have some) and glue on the beak and waddle. Then glue the head onto the body.

Have fun!

Happy Fall!

Now that the temperatures have cooled and the leaves have fallen, it really feels like fall! This is my favorite time of the year, because the holidays are just around the corner. I love all of the time we spend with our families around the holidays, and of course the food too!

Since we are a young family, we are trying to make new traditions for the holidays. What are your favorite holiday traditions?

New from the Upcycled Collection

I love this dress! I call it "Peony Blossoms". I wish I could keep it for my daughter! The fabric came from a remnant I bought. I don't know what kind of material it is, but it feels like polyester. It's even more beautiful in person. This particular dress is a 6T/7T, measuring 25" from neck to hem. It fits my almost 3 year-old daughter as a maxidress, falling to her ankles. This dress would look great over a long sleeved shirt and leg warmers.

I'm selling this for $7.99 and have more material to make a size 4T/5T or smaller. Let me know if you're interested!

Halloween Giveaway- Last Call!

Tomorrow is the last day to enter the Halloween Giveaway! Instead of drawing out of a hat, I decided to list everybody's name and then do a random number generator. So much easier! Good luck to all!

Fall is here!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, just keeping busy with my kids and lots of sewing. I love the cooler weather and changing colors of fall. I think my favorite thing about fall is that it means the holidays are near!

What do you love about fall?

Halloween is coming up!

If you're looking for an inexpensive yet unique halloween costume, you've come to the right place! Pair a tutu with some leg warmers, throw in a body suit and you've got a costume!

Yes, she is crying :(

This isn't the greatest picture. I just snapped it really quick before baby started crying, but at least you can see the detail on the leg warmers beter than in the Trick-or-Treat pictures. I called this her "Pirate Princess" costume. I have a pair of the leg warmers left, so I can make another Pirate Princess costume, or trade the bandana for a cape and your litte girl can be a "Twilight Vampire Princess" or put on a pointy hat and be a witch!

Other ideas include: ballerina, pumpkin princess, rocker chick, cheerleader, bride or anything else you can dream up! Choose any pair of leg warmers in stock and design your custom tutu! Costumes include tutu and leg warmers only.

Let me help you come up with an adorable unique costume for your little princess!

Upcycled Collection

I decided to combine my love of recycling with my love of sewing, and came up with The Upcycled Collection. The dresses in this collection are made from used clothing. I'm really excited about some of the unique ideas I have for this collection. Any material used is washed on a sanitary cycle, and since some people may be uncomfortable buying used clothing, they will be clearly identified.

Here is one dress from the collection, a true pillowcase dress (yes it's made from a pillowcase):

Welcome!

Hi! This is the blog for my online stores. This site, as well as my Etsy shop are both works in progress, so check back often for updates. I'm a stay-at-home mom who is tunring a fun sewing hobby into a home business.

My etsy shop www.sweetchildofmine7.etsy.com is where I'm selling the dresses, tutus and baby leg warmers I make.

In my eBay store http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Sweet-Child-of-Mine-shoes-and-more you will mainly find adorable childrens Squeaky Shoes. I can't sell them on Etsy since they aren't handmade. I can combine shipping on orders from the different stores if you let me know ahead of time.

I can't wait to show off my creations and share the stories behind them!

Oh yeah- I believe in giving back, so I donate 10% of purchases to charities that benefit children!

Also- make sure to follow this blog (publicly) for discounts, contests, and to be the first to know when something new is coming out!
